Julia is a founding partner at Thomson Blackburn Lane Lefebvre LLP. She maintains a diverse advocacy practice, with a focus on defamation, media, and mental health law (civil and criminal). Julia appears regularly before administrative tribunals and all levels of court. She represents both plaintiffs and defendants in defamation claims with particular experience in anti-SLAPP motions. She has assisted media organizations in challenging publication bans and responding to production orders. She also represents health practitioners and institutions before the Consent and Capacity Board, the Ontario Review Board, and other specialized administrative tribunals. Julia is frequently counsel at the Court of Appeal for Ontario on both defamation and mental health matters. In addition to her litigation practice, she provides advice on issues involving the Libel and Slander Act, Part XX.1 of the Criminal Code, and provincial mental health legislation. Julia is an instructor at the forensic psychiatry program at McMaster University.
