Justin Safayeni

Justin Safayeni is an experienced litigator whose practice focuses on administrative and public law, media/defamation law, and commercial litigation and appeals. In his public law practice, he represents clients in judicial reviews, statutory appeals, and hearings before a wide variety of tribunals. He also acts as independent legal counsel to a number of regulators. He acts for both plaintiffs and defendants in defamation cases and anti-SLAPP motions. He represented interveners before the Supreme Court on two major anti-SLAPP appeals. He also acts for parties in seeking access to court documents, making access to information requests and providing pre-publication advice to minimize defamation and privacy law liability and risk. In his commercial litigation practice, he represents clients in contract and shareholder disputes, oppression remedy cases, employment law matters, commercial fraud cases, and a wide range of other commercial disputes. He served as law clerk to the Justices Laskin, Goudge, and MacFarland at the Court of Appeal for Ontario. He teaches administrative law, serves as the co-editor of the firm’s administrative law newsletter, and writes frequently on legal topics in academic, industry. and mainstream publications.
