Karen Pirie, KC is a partner and litigator in the Calgary office of Gowling WLG. A senior advocacy lawyer with over 30 years of litigation experience, Karen practises primarily in the area of professional negligence, providing trusted litigation counsel to physicians, dentists, veterinarians and other healthcare professionals and representing these clients before the Alberta and federal courts. She appears before all levels of the Alberta Courts, handles applications for leave to appeal before the Supreme Court of Canada and appears before professional regulatory bodies. She teaches courses in advocacy to both law students and lawyers and conducts seminars for medical students, residents and physicians. Karen has been recognized in The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and The Best Lawyers in Canada and received both the Best Lawyers 2023 Medical Negligence and 2023 Professional Malpractice Law "Lawyer of the Year" awards in Calgary. She currently sits on the Law Society of Alberta’s Conduct Committee. In addition to her practice, Karen is vice-chair of the Board of Calgary Alpha House Society, chair of Hockey Calgary, on the Board of Directors of North Point School and chair of the Board of Governors for Brentwood College School.
