Kevin Smyth is a partner and Co-Head of the Mergers & Acquisitions and Private Equity Groups in the Toronto office. His practice focuses on corporate and commercial law, including mergers and acquisitions (both private and public). Kevin has extensive experience working with private equity funds, private equity portfolio companies and multi-national corporations, as well as advising on all aspects of cross-border private equity. Kevin also works on matters involving venture capital investments, joint ventures and partnerships, complex shareholder agreements, and insolvency and restructuring. He represents and acts as a trusted advisor on general corporate and commercial matters for clients across a broad range of industries, including technology, food services, diversified and mining. Kevin has also acted for sponsors and sophisticated investors in connection with the establishment of several Canadian private equity funds. In addition to his practice, Kevin is a member of the Students Committee in the Toronto office.
On February 27, 2015, Calgary-based Newalta Corporation (Newalta) completed the sale of its Industrial Division to Revolution Acquisition LP (Revolution), a subsidiary of Toronto-based Birch Hill Equity Partners Management Inc. (Birch Hill), for cash proceeds of $300 million. The Industrial Division is comprised of several business streams including major facilities and assets located across Canada. The sale creates a new stand-alone company, Terrapure Environmental, which has its headquarters in Burlington, Ontario.
