Lewis Retik is a partner in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office and is leader of the national Food & Beverage Industry Group and co-leader of the Cannabis Group. His practice focuses on regulatory and commercial law relating to the commercialization of regulated products including: licencing, product distribution, product classification, manufacturing, advertising, packaging and labelling. Lewis has worked with companies ranging from start-ups to large international companies in a variety of regulated industries, including food, natural health products, cosmetics drugs and tech. He also addresses regulatory compliance and commercial issues relating to e-commerce, multi-level marketing, direct selling, consumer protection and products that use the radio frequency spectrum. He often works with clients to develop marketing strategies and packaging and advertising designs that are both consumer-friendly and compliant. Lewis regularly interacts with officials within such departments as Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, Health Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
