Malcolm is a founding partner of Shields O’Donnell MacKillop LLP and has practised exclusively management-side employment, labour and human rights law for more than 30 years. Malcolm is recognized for his expertise in representing senior executives in employment-related disputes. Malcolm has been routinely retained by employers in high profile and crisis management cases based on his strategic approach to resolving complicated and sensitive workplace issues. Malcolm has been recognized by the Law Society of Ontario as a Specialist in Civil Litigation and repeatedly recognized in The Lexpert/American Lawyer Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada since 2008. Malcolm was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Medal for Philanthropy abroad by the Governor General of Canada in 2013. In 2016, Malcolm received the Ontario Bar Association's Randall Echlin Award for Excellence in Labour and Employment Law. In January 2021, Malcolm received the World Vision Heroes for Children Award: The Power of Generosity Award. Malcolm has also co-authored two leading texts in employment law, Damage Control: An Employer’s Guide to Just Cause Termination and Creative Solutions, among several other leading employment law texts. Malcolm was also a contributing columnist to The Globe and Mail for several years.
