Martha McCarthy was called to the Bar in 1991 and has practised exclusively family law throughout her career. Martha has acted as counsel in all levels of court and is well known for her success in achieving widespread equality for gay and lesbian spouses across the country, including gay marriage. In addition to equality issues, Martha specializes in financial matters including business valuation issues, shareholders remedies, marriage contracts, high conflict and alienation cases, child representation, and the effect of divorce on children. Martha is a Family Law Specialist and an experienced trial lawyer. She is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, and the International Academy of Family Lawyers. She is Past President of The Advocates' Society and served on that board for 10 years. Martha has received numerous awards, including the Ontario Bar Award of Excellence in Family Law (2007) and the Law Society Medal for outstanding service within the legal profession (2013).
