Matthew’s practice focuses on civil and commercial litigation. His experience includes civil, commercial, and class action litigation, including in matters relating to insurance, consumer, real estate, insolvency, and transportation law. Matthew has acted in proceedings before various courts of first instance, the Quebec Court of Appeal, and the Federal Court of Canada. Matthew has extensive experience dealing with the Quebec Consumer Protection Act, particularly in the context of class actions. He regularly provides advice to clients in matters relating to compliance with consumer protection legislation, including regarding the impact of the modifications to Quebec’s consumer protection regime arising from Bill 134, An Act mainly to modernize rules relating to consumer credit and to regulate debt settlement service contracts, high-cost credit contracts, and loyalty programs. Matthew also provides advice to Canadian and multinational corporations on language requirements and other legal requirements for doing business in Quebec. Matthew is responsible for the recruitment, onboarding, and integration of the Montreal office’s summer students. Matthew is fluent in French and English.
