Matthew Alter is a partner at Cassels, serving as Chair of the Construction Group. He represents clients in construction disputes, including bid disputes, contractor defaults, delay, lien, trust, and bond claims, and also drafts and negotiates contracts and tenders for domestic and international projects. He is certified by the LSO as a Specialist in Construction Law and is a Fellow and Past President of the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers (CCCL), as well as former Editor of the CCCL's Journal. He is also a past Chair of the International Construction Division of the ABA's Forum on Construction Law and the OBA's Construction and Infrastructure Law Section. He has authored and co-authored numerous articles and publications, including Practical Law Guide — Construction and Projects in Canada: Overview (Thomson Reuters, 2015–2023) and Kirsh and Alter: A Guide to Construction Liens in Ontario (3d Ed), and is a frequent speaker at seminars and conferences.
