Melissa Miller is a partner at Howie, Sacks & Henry LLP, practising personal injury litigation with a focus on nursing home negligence. She also handles hospital negligence, product liability, car accidents, slip and falls, and long-term disability claims. Melissa is a passionate advocate for the elderly and she has represented many families who have suffered losses as a result of nursing home and long-term care negligence, and elder abuse cases. She holds an Osgoode Certificate in Elder Law and is experienced in taking cases all the way to trial. Melissa is a long-time advocate for systemic improvement in living standards for vulnerable institutional residents. Melissa is a co-founder of the grassroots advocacy group Canadians4LTC, working with bereaved relatives, healthcare workers, politicians and others to campaign for meaningful change in the Canadian long-term care industry. Melissa was elected to the Board of Directors of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association in 2017 and continues to serve as a member of the OTLA Executive Committee. In 2021, Melissa was honoured to receive the OTLA Distinguished Service Award, and a Canadian Law Awards Excellence Award. She was also recognized as a 2021 Lexpert Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40 award winner.
