Michael is the Chairperson, Partner, and Co-Chair of the Healthcare Law Group at the regional litigation firm Carbert Waite LLP. With over 25 years of experience, he represents healthcare institutions, nurses, physicians, and other health professionals on a wide array of complex issues. While Michael’s primary focus is Health Law, his practice is strengthened by his expertise in employment law, personal injury, and estate and commercial litigation. He is also a skilled mediator. In 2010, Michael was elected to the National Executive of the Canadian Bar Association’s Health Law Section, and he became the National Chair in 2014. He currently serves as an Honourary Member-at-Large. Michael has been a speaker and panel moderator at the CBA National Health Law Conferences on six occasions between 2009 and 2019, and served as the Conference Chair twice. He has also presented on topics such as Plaintiff and Defence Perspectives: Views from the Medical Malpractice Trenches (2022) and Recent Developments in Obstetrical Malpractice Cases: 2020 SOGC Fetal Surveillance Guidelines (2021). He has appeared before all levels of court in Alberta, the Federal Court of Canada, and the Alberta Human Rights Commission Tribunal.
