Michael Crichton is a partner in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office and a past Canadian lead of the firm’s intellectual property litigation and strategy group. He has 20 years of experience as an intellectual property litigator and strategic advisor. His domestic and international clients include companies engaged in a variety of industries, including mechanical, electrical, computer hardware and software, manufacturing/fabrication, communications, and related technologies. He has appeared as counsel in numerous patent litigation proceedings in the federal courts. He also acts for clients involved in disputes concerning complex trade secrets and software copyright enforcement and is experienced with respect to Canada/US cross-border intellectual property litigation. He provides strategic counselling and opinions regarding patent infringement, patent validity, and related issues. A registered patent agent, his practice also includes patent drafting, prosecution, and portfolio management. He has been recognized in IAM Patent 1000, Managing Intellectual Property: IP Stars (patent), Who’s Who Legal: Patents, The Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory, the Legal 500 Canada, and the Best Lawyers™ in Canada.
