Michael advises corporate and business clients on organizational structuring, reorganizations, mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, and governance matters. He also co-leads the firm’s Indigenous practice area and regularly represents Indigenous communities and Indigenous-owned businesses. He acts for lenders, including banks and private equity firms, on term debt, subordinated debt, quasi-equity and equity investments. Michael represents Indigenous [eoples in negotiations with the Government of Canada on reserve land matters, commercial leasing, Nation trusts, and more. He negotiates with resource companies on joint ventures and other business relationships. He advises Indigenous leadership on structuring Nation-owned businesses, financial administration, property tax, bylaw and policy development and governance. Michael also represents Indigenous-owned businesses in share and asset transactions, partnership and joint venture agreements, structuring, policy development, and governance. Michael has been recognized for corporate law and Aboriginal law by Best Lawyers in Canada and as a leading practitioner in Aboriginal law and corporate mid-market by the Canadian Lexpert Legal Directory. He was called to the bar of Saskatchewan in 1997 and Alberta in 2002.
