Murray practises exclusively in the pension & employee benefits area and is head of the firm’s Pensions & Employee Benefits Group. He is legal counsel for the boards of trustees of more than 30 pension or benefit plans in the public and private sectors in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Alberta, as well as numerous sponsors of single-employer arrangements. He has advised on many disputes relating to pension and benefit plans. He was involved in the introduction of joint trusteeship to several public sector pension plans in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. He is recognized for his expertise in The Best Lawyers in Canada for Employee Benefits Law, The Legal 500Canada for Pensions, Chambers Canada and Chambers Global for Pensions and Benefits Law, and The Lexpert/American Lawyer Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada for Pensions & Employee Benefits Law. He was named Employee Benefits Law Lawyer of the Year in Vancouver for 2011, 2013, 2018, 2021 and 2024 by The Best Lawyers in Canada. Murray chairs and presents at many pension & employee benefits law conferences. Murray was called to the Bar of Alberta in 1985 (now inactive) and the Bar of British Columbia in 1990.
