Neal practises corporate and securities law, with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, private equity, corporate finance and company governance matters. He has extensive experience dealing with cross-border issues on numerous transactions, acting for foreign-based clients acquiring or investing in Canadian companies, Canadian companies acquiring foreign operations, and advising Canadian companies with significant foreign assets. Neal also assists his clients with regard to Canadian public company compliance issues. A significant portion of Neal’s practice involves corporate finance work, including private equity financings, as well as advising both issuers and underwriters on private and public offerings of debt and equity securities in Canada, the US and internationally. Prior to joining Osler in 2007, Neal was in- house corporate counsel with Shell Canada when it was listed on the TSX. Neal clerked at the Court of Appeal for Saskatchewan.
On June 8, 2015, Aspenleaf Energy Limited (Aspenleaf) completed its acquisition of all of the issued and outstanding common shares of Arcan Resources Ltd. (Arcan). The acquisition was carried out pursuant to the terms of a plan of arrangement that was approved by Arcan’s shareholders on June 2, 2015. The total value of the acquisition was approximately $300 million, including assumed debt.
