Risa co-heads the firm’s Professional Liability and Regulation group, with a particular focus on the practice in the defence of physicians. She is an expert litigator in the areas of professional liability, medical negligence, and health care law. For more than 25 years, Risa has acted for physicians in civil actions, and regulatory matters, and has provided advice on a myriad of legal issues related to physicians’ medical practice. Risa frequently presents at continuing legal education programs for organizations such as The Advocates' Society and Osgoode Professional Development on topics related to health law, advocacy, and mediation. She is regularly invited to lead workshops focused on litigation skills and has been an instructor/team leader at the annual Intensive Trial Advocacy Workshop for over two decades. To deepen her expertise in dispute resolution, Risa has completed the Mediating Disputes course at Harvard University’s Program on Negotiation. She has been recognized by leading legal ranking guides including Chambers Canada, Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, and Best Lawyers in Canada. In 2024, Risa was awarded The Eric Hoaken Excellence in Mentoring Award in recognition of her extraordinary mentorship and training of the next generation of leading trial lawyers.
