Robert Muncaster is a partner in Gowling WLG's Toronto office and former lead of both the Financial Services Department in Toronto and the national Lending Practice Group. Practising in the area of financial services, Robert acts primarily for lenders and venture capitalists, including Schedule I and II banks, distressed lenders, asset-based lenders, merchant banks, trust companies, life insurance companies, and finance companies. His financing work is varied and has included corporate and syndicated lending on an unsecured basis; secured lending supported by real estate and non-real estate assets as well as various types of assets, including note portfolios, aircraft, automobiles and other equipment, with an emphasis on cross-border transactions. Categories of lending in which he has been involved include senior debt, subordinate debt, mezzanine debt, distressed debt, asset-based lending, and private equity. In addition, Robert has acted in connection with workouts, security enforcement and reorganizations, consumer finance work, establishment of joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions work, and services to franchisors in the retail and travel industry sectors.
