Ruba El-Sayegh is a partner in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office and co-leader of the Arab States Sales Initiative. Her practice focuses on civil litigation as well as regulatory/administrative law, particularly health law, medical defense, and professional liability. Ruba has appeared before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Divisional Court, and the Ontario Court of Justice, as well as at Coroner Inquests and the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario. She regularly appears before the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board and assists regulated health professionals - including physicians, psychologists, physiotherapists and others - with college investigations, disciplinary proceedings, and hospital board proceedings. Her close familiarity with health privacy law has been demonstrated by several recently published articles. Ruba also serves as outside general counsel to foreign missions, ambassadors, and diplomats to Canada advising clients on Canadian laws and regulations, diplomatic and consular law, state immunity, and private international law. Ruba is the vice-chair of the Canadian Arab Business Council, Canada, a not-for-profit association focused on bringing the Canadian and Arab business communities together to facilitate trade and investment.
