Ryan Gallagher's practice focuses on transportation and logistics with a particular emphasis on the rail industry. He advises shippers, receivers, shortline railways, investors, rail users, and other interested parties on all aspects of rail transportation in commercial negotiations, dispute resolution, regulatory, and transactional matters. He has significant experience with competitive and strategic analysis in support of rail rate and service negotiations, as well as regulatory matters under the Canada Transportation Act. He also advises clients regarding rail safety matters, public policy advocacy and government relations, financing and leasing of rolling stock, and contractual allocation of liability. His broader transportation practice includes advising shippers and other interested parties on contractual and regulatory issues in relation to trucking, terminal, and infrastructure development matters, including shipping and handling agreements at inland and seaborne terminal facilities. He also practises competition law, with particular experience in merger reviews.
On October 28, 2015, Match.com Canada Ltd., a subsidiary of The Match Group, completed its previously-announced acquisition of Canadian online dating service Plentyoffish Media Inc. (POF) for US$575 million in cash. The Match Group, which already owns Match.com, OkCupid and Tinder and has filed its IPO on the NASDAQ, now adds POF, the largest free online dating site in the world, to its portfolio. Match is a wholly-owned subsidiary of US media and internet giant IAC/InterActiveCorp.
