100 King St W, Suite 5600, Toronto, ON
Year called to bar: 2005 (ON)
Sara Mainville is the managing partner of JFK Law. She was called to the Ontario bar in 2005, and was since called in BC (2022) and Saskatchewan (2024). Sara has a management degree (Lethbridge) and a LLB (Queen’s). Sara earned an LLM (Toronto) that engaged her in a lifetime study of Indigenous jurisdiction’s important role in reconciliation in Canada. She practised law as a solo practitioner and taught jurisprudence to undergraduate students after being an associate for a well-known Anishinaabe-led law firm in Ontario. In 2014, Sara was elected Chief of Couchiching First Nation. She returned to law in 2016 and recommitted to Indigenous jurisdiction through cannabis, gaming, and tobacco work with First Nations. Sara is very proud of her participation in the negotiations that led to the creation of the First Nation Sovereign Wealth LP, a partnership of 129 First Nations in Ontario that involved 14 million Hydro One shares and $29 million in seed capital. She has a unique perspective from the vantage point of an Indigenous citizen of a Nation strongly aligned with their own sovereignty, a former Chief, and a legal practitioner within her own Indigenous legal order. Sara has a busy practice overseeing several Bill C-92 files and supporting the governance work of her clients.
