Shantona is a partner at Pape Chaudhury LLP. She has a varied litigation practice, acting for both individual and institutional clients in matters involving commercial litigation, class actions, torts, professional discipline, professional negligence, administrative, constitutional, and national security law. She has considerable experience in appellate litigation, having acted in over 40 appeals at all levels of Court in Ontario and the Supreme Court of Canada. In 2022, she acted as co-lead counsel to the Public Order Emergency Commission (the Rouleau Commission), a public inquiry into the federal government’s first-ever use of the Emergencies Act. In 2023, Shantona received the Advocates’ Society’s Douglas K. Laidlaw Award for Excellence in Advocacy. Also in 2023, Shantona was appointed lead counsel for the Public Inquiry into Foreign Interference in Federal Electoral Processes and Democratic Institutions. Shantona is ranked in Chambers Canada, Lexpert, Benchmark, and Best Lawyers. She is also a fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America. Born and bred in Montréal, Shantona is called to the bars in Ontario and Québec (2007). She has a BCL from Oxford, a BCL/LLB from McGill, and an MA & BAH from Queen’s University.
