With over 25 years of experience practising intellectual property law, Stéphane Caron, a bilingual partner in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office, provides strategic advice on contentious and non-contentious matters concerning copyright, technology, media, and trademarks. He regularly advises on software, database, and AI-related issues. His clients include entertainment companies, creators and publishers, software developers and businesses in the manufacturing, services, and energy sectors. His client base also extends to public sector and not-for-profit organizations, including copyright management organizations, government departments, crown corporations and professional associations. Stéphane represents clients before the Federal Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, and the Trademark Opposition Board, and has appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada. A former chair of the firm's Copyright National Practice Group, Stéphane has extensive experience in advising clients on copyright and technology-related policy issues.
