A bilingual partner in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office, Stéphane Caron’s practice focuses on copyright, trademarks, and personality rights. He provides strategic advice to a broad range of clients from entertainment companies and software businesses to manufacturers of motor vehicles, clothing, and other consumer goods. He also regularly advises public sector and not-for-profit organizations, including government departments, Crown corporations, and professional associations. He represents clients before the Federal Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, and the Trademark Opposition Board. A former chairman of the firm's copyright national practice group, he has extensive experience in advising clients on copyright policy and related regulatory issues. Currently, he is co-chairman of the Ottawa chapter of the Copyright Society of the US. He taught copyright law at the University of Ottawa from 1998–2019. He has been recognized in The Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory and The Best Lawyers™ in Canada and named an “Acritas Star” in 2020.
