Alfred Apps is recognized as leading counsel in the areas of restructuring, M&A, private equity fund formation and investment, structured finance, securitization, and infrastructure finance and ranked by PLC as one of Canada's leading lawyers in many of these fields. He has led companies and raised capital in Canada, the US, and Europe. He has been chaiman/director of several public and private companies. In 1993, he was named CEO of The Lehndorff Group where he oversaw a 47-lender $1 billion debt restructuring and the creation of one of Canada's first REITs. In 1998, he led a business combination between Lehndorff and Dundee Realty Corporation (now DREAM). After a short period as Dundee's president and COO, he was appointed CEO of Newstar Technologies Inc. In 2001, upon completing a merger of Newstar with three of its US competitors, he returned to practise law at a national law firm. He joined Miller Thomson in 2015. He has been a board member of Huron University College (recognized as a distinguished alumni in 2018), chairman of the foundation board for the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (2006–07), president of the Empire Club of Canada (2009–10), and president of the Liberal Party of Canada (2009–12). He has been active in numerous arts and youth-oriented charities.
Pacific West Commercial Corporation (Pacific West), an affiliate of Vancouver-based Stern Partners Inc. (Stern Partners), completed the acquisition of the business and assets of Comark Inc. (Comark). Financial terms were undisclosed.
