Walter helps employers with their labour relations and employment matters. He is experienced in collective bargaining, arbitrations, human rights complaints, employment contracts, discipline issues, dismissal planning, wrongful dismissal litigation, non-competition actions, employee fraud and recovery as well as Labour Relations Board hearings. He has advised employers on developing effective, up-to-date workplace policies. He has helped employers draft policies that address the legalization of recreational cannabis and other developments. He advises regulatory bodies when sanctioning professionals for misconduct and acts as independent legal counsel to regulatory bodies. Walter served as a member of the board of directors of the Law Society of Alberta and as President of the Canadian Bar Association – Alberta Branch. He has appeared before all levels of Alberta courts as well as the Federal Court of Canada. Walter is recognized as a stand-out lawyer, by Thomson Reuters (2023). He was named a leading practitioner in employment law (management), workplace human rights (employer) by The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory. He was featured in Lexpert Special Edition: Agribusiness and Cannabis (2020) and appointed King’s Counsel in 2005. He was called to the Bar of Alberta in 1986.
