William Pellerin spearheads one of Canada’s most active international trade practices. He frequently litigates trade remedy matters and advises clients with respect to trade, customs and sanctions compliance. William represents numerous global companies in trade remedy challenges and is currently co-leading one of Canada’s largest trade remedy disputes against the United States. William also co-leads McMillan’s Sanctions Specialty Niche, where he advises on some of Canada’s most impactful sanctions matters and plays a key role in shaping regulatory developments on economic sanctions. He is also a leading voice on Canadian regulations addressing supply chains and forced labour. William is one of the very few private practice lawyers in Canada to have argued before the WTO Appellate Body and dispute settlement panels. William has a thorough understanding of international trade policy and disputes and government processes. Previously, as Deputy Director, Trade Remedies and North America Trade at Global Affairs Canada, William coordinated Canada’s responses to international trade disputes. Previously, as counsel to the Government of Canada’s Trade Law Bureau, he litigated for Canada in its landmark challenge to US duties on softwood lumber – one of the world’s largest trade disputes.
