Corporate Legal Operations Consortium debuts educational platform for legal ops pros

The Corporate Legal Operations Consortium has debuted the CLOC Academy, an educational platform that offers tiered courses for legal operations professionals based on experience level.

The CLOC Academy comes on the heels of the Foundations of Legal Operations course. The courses are built around the Core 12 framework, with an expanded curriculum categorized into Levels 100 (essential skills) and 200 (advanced skills).

“A decade after its introduction, the Core 12 remains the standard for legal operations professionals. By aligning these core competencies with career stages and a dynamic curriculum, we’re giving our members meaningful opportunities to grow their expertise,” CLOC board member Adam Becker said in a statement.

Level 100 focuses on Core 12 foundations and provides new professionals with a general introduction to legal operations. Level 200 concentrates on Core 12 in practice, offering intermediate courses focusing on specific Core 12 functions.

Twelve courses are being developed for rollout next year. According to CLOC's head of content and education, Nicole Zafian, the CLOC Academy will officially be open in February.

“The rollout of the CLOC Academy begins in February, with Level 200 courses at select events, building momentum towards a robust offering at the 2025 CLOC Global Institute,” Zafian said. “This flagship event has always been a hub for advancing knowledge and connection, making it the ideal stage for this next evolution in legal operations education.”

Participants will receive certificates and digital badges upon completing the CLOC Academy courses. Level 300, which will provide leadership-level courses centred on Core 12 mastery, is currently planned for development.

The entire curriculum is expected to be offered in person by 2026.

“The CLOC Academy is the result of years of collaboration and work by the CLOC Education Advisory Council and countless CLOC members who have poured their expertise into crafting and delivering valuable content for our community,” Becker said.

CLOC is a peer-driven, not-for-profit organization focused on legal operations.
