Deloitte Global has released the fourth edition of its Global Future of Cyber Survey, highlighting cybersecurity's increasing role in shaping business strategies amid a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
The report also indicated that Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) are becoming more influential within organizations.
The survey, conducted across 43 countries, focused on how organizations adjust their strategies to enhance cybersecurity in response to advanced threats. The findings indicate a rising focus on integrating cybersecurity into strategic business planning, involving CISOs more actively in decision-making processes.
One notable trend emphasized in the report is the growing adoption of generative artificial intelligence (AI). Brian Jackson, principal research director at Deloitte, stated that generative AI is now a key focus of AI investments across industries, helping to drive innovation in areas like customer service and software development.
Quantum computing is also gaining traction, with around 34 percent of high-maturity IT organizations planning to adopt quantum solutions by 2025. The report highlighted that these organizations, referred “transformers,” are significantly more likely to invest in quantum technologies than lower-maturity IT departments.
As quantum technologies advance, post-quantum cryptography is identified as a key priority to ensure that sensitive data remains secure against future quantum threats. The report recommended that organizations begin implementing quantum-resistant encryption techniques, especially in sectors handling critical data, such as healthcare and financial services.
The report discussed the evolving role of CISOs. It revealed that around 20 percent of respondents have CISOs reporting directly to their CEOs. This shift underscores the growing recognition of cybersecurity as a crucial component of organizational strategy and risk management.
Emily Mossburg, Deloitte Global’s cyber leader, noted that the evolving threat landscape has increased the strategic responsibilities of CISOs. “CISOs are increasingly required to adopt a more strategic role, driving risk prioritization and mitigation across business operations,” Mossburg stated.
The survey also indicated that organizations increasingly invest in AI to enhance cybersecurity measures, with 39 percent of respondents using AI capabilities extensively in their programs. The report recommended that businesses continue focusing on cybersecurity as an essential part of their tech-driven growth strategies.
