EY Canada has announced the appointment of Alycia Calvert as its new chair and chief executive officer (CEO), effective July 1.
Calvert will succeed Jad Shimaly, who will transition to the role of EY global managing partner – client service.
Calvert, who has been with EY for over 25 years, has been a member of the EY Canada Executive Committee for the past decade. She most recently served as the chief operating officer, where she focused on achieving long-term value and sustainable growth for the Canadian business across service lines, functions, and geographies. Before this role, Calvert was the managing partner for markets and accounts and led the tax practice. Recognizing her contributions to the field, she was named a Fellow by CPA Ontario in 2018.
“The work EY does to ignite positive change, address complex issues, and advance social and economic growth in Canada and beyond is inspiring,” said Calvert. “I’m honoured to have the opportunity to advance our purpose and create a lasting impact for our people, clients, and communities.”
Throughout her career, Calvert has advised clients across various sectors to navigate evolving market dynamics and capitalize on growth opportunities. She has led large multinational organizations through complex tax issues and transformative transactions, bringing her extensive expertise to bear on today’s business challenges.
Jad Shimaly, the outgoing chair and CEO, praised Calvert’s leadership qualities. “Alycia is a visionary with deep expertise on the risks and opportunities shaping the business agenda of Canada’s corporate sector,” Shimaly said. “Her leadership and influence will deliver tremendous value for our people and clients, delivering innovative solutions that address today’s evolving issues.”
In his new role as EY global managing partner – client service, Shimaly will focus on quality, growth, and go-to-market strategies across all four EY service lines, ensuring consistency and teamwork across the organization. Shimaly began his career at EY in Cleveland in 2000, moved to Toronto in 2001, and became a partner in 2007. He has held various leadership roles, including managing partner of the Canadian Consulting practice and chair and CEO of EY Canada since 2018.
During his tenure, Shimaly has overseen several successful initiatives, contributing to the firm’s year-over-year growth. Notable achievements include establishing the EY Americas Mining & Metals Centre of Excellence, the Entrepreneurs Access Network program, a global alliance with Shopify, and the development of an Accessibility & Neuroinclusion practice. EY Canada also received Silver level certification from the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business under his leadership.
“All these moments have allowed us to build trust with our clients and people, and to strengthen our brand in the market as a truly distinctive multidisciplinary organization,” Shimaly explained. “I’m excited to continue on this journey — while bringing more Canada to the global stage.”
EY Canada congratulates Calvert and Shimaly on their new roles and looks forward to continued growth and innovation under their leadership.
