Info-Tech report highlights AI and quantum computing as key tech trends for 2025

Info-Tech Research Group has released its Tech Trends 2025 report, which highlighted rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing, and cybersecurity and urged businesses to embrace these technologies proactively.

According to the report, generative AI is leading investments in artificial intelligence across industries, revolutionizing areas like customer service and software development. Brian Jackson, principal research director at Info-Tech and the report’s lead author, highlighted this trend, stating, “Generative AI is reshaping the AI landscape, becoming a foundational element of AI strategies across industries.” He noted that companies adopting generative AI early will likely gain a significant competitive edge.

The report also focused on the growing importance of quantum computing, noting that high-maturity IT organizations—referred to as “transformers”—are three times more likely to invest in quantum technologies. Approximately 34 percent of these organizations plan to adopt quantum solutions by the end of 2025, compared to only 11 percent of average IT departments. Quantum computing, the report noted, is transitioning from theoretical exploration to real-world applications in sectors such as finance, media, and government.

Post-quantum cryptography was another key focus of the report. Concerning the possibility that quantum computing could eventually crack current encryption systems, the report stressed the urgency of adopting quantum-resistant encryption techniques. This is critical for industries managing sensitive data, like healthcare and financial services.

Info-Tech’s Tech Trends 2025 report is based on a comprehensive survey conducted between March and July 2024, which gathered input from nearly 1,000 IT decision-makers globally. The respondents came from sectors such as financial services, healthcare, government, media, and technology, offering a broad perspective on how emerging trends are shaping the IT landscape.

The report also included insights from industry leaders and expert interviews, offering practical guidance for businesses on adopting these technologies. Key areas of focus included AI-powered cybersecurity solutions, the development of custom AI models tailored to specific business needs, and the emphasis on AI sovereignty to maintain data confidentiality and compliance.

Jackson emphasized that staying ahead of these trends requires a strategic approach. “Understanding how these technologies evolve is only part of the equation. IT leaders need real-world insights and data to make informed decisions and prepare for the future,” he explained.
