The Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) has named Brookfield Properties and Purolator among its 2025 ACC Value Champions, recognizing them for their innovative approaches to improving efficiency and reducing costs in legal operations.
Since 2012, the ACC Value Challenge has recognized corporate legal teams for advancing efficiency, cost savings, and strategic legal management. The Canadian companies Brookfield Properties and Purolator are among eight global corporate law departments honoured this year for optimizing legal service delivery through technology, streamlined processes, and new operational models.
Brookfield Properties, a real estate company, partnered with Reed Smith LLP (USA) to enhance its vendor due diligence process. Facing the challenge of managing high-volume background checks for compliance, Brookfield Properties sought a more scalable and efficient solution.
Reed Smith customized its AI-driven conflicts and risk assessment platform, creating an automated screening and real-time tracking portal. This cut vendor review times from days to hours, reduced costs by 48 percent, and resulted in an estimated US$750,000 in savings.
Purolator, a Canadian logistics company, tackled inefficiencies in contract lifecycle management after previous implementation attempts failed. The company partnered with DocJuris (USA) to find a cost-effective solution using existing tools rather than investing in expensive new software.
By simplifying contract generation and eliminating unnecessary complexities, Purolator saved over US$300,000, significantly reducing legal technology spending. The improvements came at a crucial time, as Purolator transitioned to a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
The 2025 ACC Value Champions also include:
- FedEx (USA) & Elevate (USA) – AI-assisted workflow for discovery requests
- Ferring Pharmaceuticals & Factor Law (Switzerland) – Data-driven contract management
- PepsiCo, Inc. (USA) – Standardization and automation in legal processes
- Rocket Software (USA) – Custom contract management platform
- UBS (Switzerland), UnitedLex (USA), & Legal Decoder (USA) – AI-driven legal cost analysis
