Postmedia Network Completes Sale of Publications to Glacier Media

Postmedia Network Inc. (“Postmedia”) completed the sale of the Times Colonist in Victoria and certain other British Columbia-based community newspapers to affiliates of Glacier Media Inc. (“Glacier”) for proceeds of $86.5 million.

Postmedia was represented internally by its in-house legal team and assisted by Goodmans LLP with a team led by Celia Rhea and Mark Spiro that included Rob Kallio and Zehra Sheerazi (corporate); Michael Bertrand and Lianna Yeung (banking); Carrie Smit and David Veneziano (tax); Ken Herlin (real estate); Richard Annan (competition); Joe Conforti and Michelle Dobranowski (employment); Ronnie Hoffer (IP) and Thomas Macdonald (environment). Terra Klinck of Hicks Morley Hamilton Stewart Storie LLP acted as pension and benefits counsel to Postmedia.

Farris, Vaughan, Wills & Murphy LLP acted as legal advisor to Glacier, with a team led by Elizabeth Harrison, QC, which included Herbert Dodd, QC, David Selley and Bo Rothstein (banking); Thierry Keable and James Campbell (corporate) and James Matthews (real estate). In addition, Mark Nicholson of Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP acted as competition counsel and Israel Chafetz, QC, of Taylor Jordan Chafetz acted as labour counsel.
