Kent is Head of Litigation at Davies in Toronto, where the practice has received leading industry recognition during his tenure, including Chambers Canada’s Litigation Firm of the Year. He specializes in complex, high-stakes litigation and has appeared as lead counsel in trial and appellate courts throughout Canada. His practice spans commercial disputes, securities, competition law and class actions. He has successfully argued appeals before the Supreme Court of Canada in cases involving oppression, libel, tax, plans of arrangement, intellectual property, the intersection of copyright and broadcasting law and contested elections. He has conducted dozens of trials and numerous contested hearings before administrative tribunals, including the Ontario Securities Commission, as well as complex domestic and international arbitrations in Canada, the United States, Europe and Africa. Kent is consistently recognized as a leading litigation counsel by Chambers, Benchmark Litigation, Lexpert, The Legal 500 and Best Lawyers, and has been named by Euromoney among the world’s top litigation counsel. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the International Society of Barristers, the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and the American Bar Foundation.
On March 1, 2016, Shaw Communications Inc. (Shaw) indirectly acquired (the Acquisition) all of the issued and outstanding shares of Mid-Bowline Group Corp. (Mid-Bowline), the parent corporation of WIND Mobile Corp., pursuant to a plan of arrangement for an enterprise value of approximately $1.6 billion.
