Partner in the firm’s Toronto office. Practice focuses on asset securitization, structured finance, and securities law. Significant experience in asset securitization, including several asset classes such as commercial and residential mortgages, home-equity lines of credit, credit cards, automobile/equipment loans, automobile operating leases, and trade receivables. Has acted as counsel for issuers and underwriters on numerous significant securitizations, including several of the largest Canadian public securitizations completed to date, several US cross-border offerings, and on several private commercial paper conduits. Also has significant experience in public and private structured finance, including covered bonds, credit-linked notes, and investment funds, and has experience with swaps and derivatives in the context of such structured finance transactions. In addition, has also acted as counsel for issuers and underwriters with respect to public issuances of medium-term notes and other securities, and has significant experience in securities law, including prospectus offerings, private placements, and continuous disclosure. Admitted to the Ontario Bar in 2000.
Scotiabank completed the acquisition of a 20 per cent equity interest in the financial services business of Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited for $500 million in cash. As part of the new business partnership, Scotiabank has agreed to provide a funding commitment to the financial services business of up to $2.25 billion and the parties have entered into a marketing program agreement to pursue joint marketing initiatives.
