Brian Carr has extensive experience in a wide variety of corporate tax issues with special emphasis on resource taxation, tax litigation, and corporate reorganizations. He is former chairman of the Canadian Tax Foundation, past chairman of the national taxation law section of the Canadian Bar Association, and former co-chairman and member of the CBA/CICA joint committee on taxation and former editor of the Canadian Tax Journal. He is the co-author and co-editor-in-chief of Canadian Resource Taxation, a reference book on the taxation of the resource industries. In 1996, he was co-winner of the Canadian Tax Foundation’s Douglas J. Sherbaniuk Distinguished Writing Award as co-author of “Today’s Butterfly.” In 2012, he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for service to the Canadian Tax Foundation. In 2016, he was awarded the inaugural Award of Excellence by the tax section of the Canadian Bar Association of Ontario and a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Canadian Tax Foundation.
Stikeman Elliott is acting as Canadian counsel to Castings Acquisition Corp., an affiliate company of The Carlyle Group, a major private investment fund based in Washington, D.C., in its proposed acquisition (by way of plan of arrangement), of all of the outstanding common shares of Tritech Precision Inc. and all of the outstanding Class A common shares of Trimin Enterprises Inc.
