Jeff is a senior trial and appellate counsel with a national practice focusing on corporate/commercial, securities, banking, insurance, constitutional, competition and pension law matters. A significant aspect of Jeff’s practice involves defending class actions. He also regularly acts as counsel in constitutional and administrative proceedings. Jeff has appeared before courts in a number of Canadian provinces, as well as the Federal Court of Canada and the Supreme Court of Canada. He also appeared before many administrative tribunals, including the Ontario Financial Services Tribunal, the Ontario Securities Commission and the Competition Tribunal. Jeff is a frequent speaker on class actions and other litigation related topics. For more than 15 years, he was an instructor at a program jointly sponsored by Osgoode Professional Development and The Advocates' Society on written advocacy, and has been a guest lecturer at the Osgoode Intensive Trial Advocacy Program.
On June 30, 2017, Stelco Inc. (Stelco), formerly U.S. Steel Canada Inc., emerged from Companies’ Creditors Arrangements Act (CCAA) proceedings through the implementation of a CCAA plan. This involved the compromise of more than $2 billion of debt and the restructuring of approximately $2 billion of pension and benefit obligations.
