Patrick Girard is a partner in the litigation and dispute resolution group. He practises mainly in civil litigation with an emphasis on private international law, international arbitration, and all areas of public litigation, including administrative and constitutional law. He is frequently consulted on regulatory or commercial energy matters and has given legal opinions on agreements involving the trading or generation of gas, hydro-electricity, and wind turbines. In particular, he has given opinions or has been consulted regarding: (1) the application of various provincial laws for the use of federal lands, including in relation to the Environment Quality Act, mining rights, municipal laws regarding security and noise, and hydroelectric charges; (2) validity issues regarding specific federal laws, such as the Seaway Property Regulations; (3) jurisdictional conflict issues between federal government branches; and (4) access to information and protection of privacy matters. He has pleaded in front of all levels of Canadian jurisdiction, including the Quebec Court of Appeal, the Federal Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada.
On June 5, 2018, Transurban (ASX: TCL) acquired 100% of the equity interests in the A25 toll road asset and concession in Montréal, from Macquarie Infrastructure Partners. Transurban has assumed responsibility for the management and operations of the A25.
