Park Lawn’s senior legal counsel, Ellen Tannous, has been announced as Timbercreek Capital’s new general counsel effective May 12.

During her four-year tenure at Park Lawn, Tannous spearheaded strategic mergers and acquisitions transactions such as real estate acquisitions for the Canadian cemetery, funeral, and cremation business. She also managed Park Lawn’s commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, with roles supporting investor relations and human resources.

Before Park Lawn, she spent two years with Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Company of Canada as its senior legal counsel. She was also Enercare Inc.’s legal counsel, advising on matters related to financings, acquisitions, public company matters, regulatory matters, government relations issues, marketing, advertising, and real estate, according to LinkedIn.

Moreover, Tannous logged a stint as Target Canada’s associate legal counsel after a time as a corporate and securities lawyer at Wildeboer Dellelce LLP. As a private practitioner, she tackled corporate finance transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and general business law matters; she also handled public offerings and private placements of equity and debt securities, take-over bids, matters relating to corporate governance, registration and compliance, and arrangements in connection with going-public transactions such as qualifying transactions and reverse take-overs through the facilities of the TSX Venture Exchange.

She obtained her JD in Law from the University of Toronto in 2010.

Timbercreek was established in 2000 as an alternative asset class investment manager. It provides real estate owners and investors with structured financing solutions, serving clients in Canada, Ireland and the US.

The company’s leadership team includes CEO Blair Tamblyn, CFO Tracy Johnston, and Chief Investment Officer Scott Rowland. Last week, Timbercreek also announced on LinkedIn that multifamily mortgage industry expert Mike Sagert had joined its team as the executive director of its new CMHC Multifamily Program, bringing his knowledge in strategic planning, investor relations, and credit underwriting.
