Patrick is co-chair of Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP’s national Tax Group, and the former president of the Canadian branch of the International Fiscal Association. His practice includes all aspects of corporate income tax with an emphasis on international tax planning, domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, and corporate finance. Patrick has experience representing clients in various industries including financial services, mining, telecommunications, manufacturing and technology. Patrick has appeared before the Canadian House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance and the Canadian Senate Banking Committee as an expert on international tax matters. Prior to joining Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP, Patrick worked in the Canadian Department of Finance where he was extensively involved in drafting legislation and formulating tax policy related to foreign affiliates, foreign source income and foreign investments.

On November 5, 2015, Hydro One Limited, the largest electricity transmission and distribution company in Ontario, announced the closing of its initial public offering by way of secondary sale pursuant to which the Province of Ontario offered 81,100,000 common shares at $20.50 per share for total gross proceeds to the Province of approximately $1.66 billion. NYX also entered into a preferred supplier licensing agreement with a subsidiary of Amaya to provide certain casino gaming content to Amaya’s real-money casino offering, which will be integrated into the PokerStars and Full Tilt branded casino websites.
In Canada’s largest M&A transaction of 2014, US-based Burger King Worldwide Inc. acquired Tim Hortons Inc. in a $12.5-billion deal that created a global powerhouse quick service restaurant company based in Canada. Combined, the company now has more than 18,000 restaurants in 100 countries.
