François Painchaud focuses on business law applied to key technology sectors. He is frequently involved in the negotiation and drafting of complex transactions related to technology transfers and joint ventures, as well as in commercial and corporate law, comprised of consortium creation, venture capital, and mergers and acquisitions transactions. He was repeatedly named "Lawyer of the Year" by Best Lawyers in Canada in two categories: information technology in Montreal and technology law. He was also named "Technology Transfer Lawyer of the Year in Canada" by the Corporate INTL Magazine Global Awards, and has been a constant member of the Intellectual Asset Management (IAM)'s Leading 300 IP Strategists for over 10 years. Called to the Quebec bar in 1986, he has been a partner at ROBIC for more than 25 years. He is the past president of both the Licensing Executives Society International (LESI) and Licensing Executives Society (LES) US and Canada. He is corporate secretary to the Quebec Consortium for Drug Development (CQDM) and CATALIS, both leading organizations in the Canadian life sciences ecosystem. He is also a board member of Specialty Pharma Searchlight Pharmaceuticals and of a few not-for-profit organizations, including the Cancer Research Society.
